O' tree of man, O' human tree,
Grow huge and grow free.
Tendril or twiner are not you;
Clutch to nothing, cling not you.
Leafy grow you on your youth;
Scorched terrains, must you soothe.
Thus much lofty should you grow,
See every person equal below.
Radiant be you in your bloom;
Colour the horizon, wipe the gloom.
Sweet fruits, may you only drop;
Sour ones bear branches atop.
Such good nesting place be you,
Rest at ease, where birds of all hue.
Shaded and dense, be green and airy;
Spread your arms, shelter the weary.
Upright be you when dark clouds throng;
Whistle aloud when winds are strong.
A hard bark, no death can kill;
In furniture or fittings, survive it will.
O' tree of man, O' human tree,
Thicken your wood, to live perennially.
